The clock struck nine like always on the day of 3rd July 2000 but it was not an ordinary evening but Kaun Banega Crorepati was first aired with great excitement and hopes. Hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, it was and is the official Hindi adaptation of the show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ Franchise. With the theme of ‘Jawaab Aap Hi Ho’, KBC helps people to realize their right to ‘gyaan, dhyaan and samman’.

The fondly show includes a game in which the contestant is asked multiple choice questions and with his knowledge and skills choose the right option for the 4 possible answers. They are provided four lifelines to use when they are uncertain and have to tackle the questions to win the great amount of 7 crore rupees. Since 2000 till now, the show is hosted by just two great stars:

  1. Amitabh Bachchan

He hosted the first and second season of KBC which gained great popularity and love from the audience. We all know Amitabh Bachchan, he has a very long career in bollywood full of successes. He was the biggest filmstars taking the big jump to the small screen which made him to definition of KBC. He took over the position again in the fourth season and till now, we all know KBC with the name of Amitabh Bachchan as his hosting skills are one of the main reasons of the success of the show.

  1. Shah Rukh Khan

He hosted the third season of KBC. The king of bollywood with his charm and passion hosted the show with his tremendous skills but the show didn’t gain the same popularity. It was like the audience was used to and more fond of Amitabh Bachchan. They were somehow too big shoes to fill in by SRK.

The huge success of the show led to its adaptation in different languages as the non-hindi speakers were unable to understand the show and entertain themselves.

  • The first adaptation was aired from October 2000 to June 2001 in Tamil and Malayalam language on Sun TV and Surya TV as Koteeshwaran hosted by Sarathkumar/ Mukesh and produced under Radaan Mediaworks.
  • In 2011, the bhojpuri version of the show named Ke Bani Crorepati appeared on television. It was broadcasted on Mahuaa TV hosted by Shatrughan Sinha.
  • In the same year, the Bengali version of the show premiered as Ke Hobe Banglar Kotipoti on Mahuaa Bangla channel. Initially the show was hosted by Sourav Ganguly but then in 2018 show air with new host Prosenjit Chatterjee.
  • Later in 2012, the Kannada version of the show Kannadada Kotyadhipati aired on Asiatic Suvarna channel hosted by late Puneeth Rajkumar in first, second and fourth seasons and third season by Ramesh Aravind. Later on the show aired on Colors Kannada with Ramesh Aravind as host.
  • Neengalum Vellalaam Oru Kodi, the Tamil remake of the show aired in 2012. It was broadcasted for three seasons on channel Star Vijay and the fourth season on Colors TV. The first season was hosted by Tamil Actor Suriya. The next two seasons by Prakash Raj and Arvind Swami and the fourth season with name kodeeshwari by Radhika Sarathkumar. All the contestants in the 4th season were female.
  • Then in 2013, the Marathi version of the show aired on ETV Marathi as Kon Hoeel Marathi Crorepati. The two seasons were hosted by Sachin Khedakar and the third by Swwapnil Joshi. In February 2019, the broadcasting of the 4th season titled Kon Honaar Crorepati with Nagraj Manjule was announced. Later in March 2021, after a break of 1 year the launch of the 5th season was announced with first host Sachin Khedeka.
  • The Malayalam remake of the show as Ningalkkum Aakaam Kodeeshwaran aired from 2012 to 2017 on Asianet and from 2019 on Mazhavil Manorama with host Suresh Gopi.
  • Premiered on June 9, 2014, Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu appeared as the Telugu version of the show. The show was hosted by Akkineni Nagarjuna for three seasons and the fourth season by Chiranjeevi and aired on Star Maa.In 2021 the show re-emerged as Evaru Meelo Koteeswarulu hosted by actor Jr NTR and aired by Gemini TV.
  • The Kashmiri remake of the show appeared in 2019 as Kus Bani Koshur Karorpaet with host Rayees Mohiuddin. The Sony’s Production House Studio Next made show aired on DD Kashir.

Kaun Banega Crorepati is one of the greatest show of Indian Television. It’s craze actually led to its remakes in various languages as some questions related to hindi language movies or content were unrelatable for non-hindi speakers. It’s most versions are hosted by great actors like the hindi version by Amitabh Bachchan. It’s high audience impressing rate and it’s knowledgeable content is what keeping the show going.
