Genshin Impact has placed a tremendous amount of effort in bringing Yun Jin to life. As a representative of Chinese opera culture, many aspects of her character had to be studied carefully. Of course, eventually, this included her story as well.
Born in a family of renowned artists, Yun Jin picked up her family’s legacy and rose as a star herself. However, despite all that, she’s far more open-minded than her elders, which allows her to be more innovative with her work. If Genshin Impactplayers are interested in knowing some Yun Jin trivia, then they can read on to discover more.
8 Yun Jin Was Introduced As Yunjin
Before Yun Jin’s release in Genshin Impact 2.4, she was already teased in many characters and NPC voice lines. Since Version 1.0, players have been acquainted with a renowned opera artist in the Liyue Harbor. For book connoisseurs, they’d also recognize the name from the String of Pearls series, released in Version 1.2.
However, initially, the character was introduced as Yunjin. The localization was later changed in Genshin Impact 2.2, where they separate the family’s name “Yun.” This also marks Yun Jin as the second character from Liyue who has a full name, with the first being Hu Tao from the “Hu” family.
7 Has Two Voice Artists
For the first time in Genshin Impact history, one character is voiced by two people. In every language, the second voice artist is the same person, an opera singer called Yang Yang. This serves as a means to better portray Yun Jin’s role as an opera performer.
When Yun Jin’s singing was first teased in Version 2.4’s Livestream, players were divided between those who enjoy the tradition and those who think it’s not their cup of tea. Nevertheless, the amount of effort miHoYo put into this character is certainly commendable, as Yun Jin is a brilliant representation of Chinese culture.
6 Born In A Traditional Family Of Opera
Like many other Genshin Impact characters, Yun Jin was first influenced by opera because of her family, where they run the most prestigious group, the Yun-Han Opera Troupe. Since she was small, Yun Jin was serious about learning the art, and so her parents trained her heavily.
While the memory of her lesson is not one she would recall happily, Yun Jin is deeply grateful for the opportunity given to her. As her parents are also brilliant artists in the industry, Yun Jin quickly becomes a master herself.
5 Respected By The Elders In Opera, But Dotted Like A Baby Outside
Soon enough, Yun Jin took on the role of the leader. This makes her a young director among the many elders in the Troupe. Nevertheless, they acknowledge her talent and thus happily follow her lead. Unfortunately, though, this only goes inside their rehearsals. Outside their work, elders will be elders. The “granddads and grannies” would often nag on Yun Jin to take good care of herself.
Whether it’s a reminder to not eat spicy food or maintain her weight, Yun Jin often finds herself running away from their “old mind.” She even goes as far as making up a person called “Xingyan” just so she could hang out with Xinyan.
4 Didn’t Get Her Vision After Life-Threatening Situation
Most Genshin Impact characters got their Vision as their life hangs by a thread (for example, Qiqi, Shenhe, and Bennett). As for Yun Jin, her gift came when she received an epiphany.
In one play, she suddenly felt lost and helpless. Yun Jin couldn’t bear the thought of performing a story she’s not fond of telling; she wanted to tell the story of pure emotions, not a chore of music, dancing, and singing. Yun Jin continued the performance without a hitch, but she couldn’t recall much after. What she remembered was that when she took off her costume, a Vision was hiding in her sleeve.
3 Admires Hu Tao
When it comes to Yun Jin’s singing, fans are eagerly waiting for her operatic version of Hu Tao’s Hilitune. This tune is different in every language, but those using English dub will recognize it as, “Silly-churl, billy-churl, silly-billy Hilichurl…” This expectation comes from Hu Tao’s voice line, where it says that Hu Tao made Yun Jin sing it in opera style after the singer lost a bet.
Yun Jin effortlessly gets along with Hu Tao’s eccentricity. She admires Director Hu’s witty remarks, which would make sense considering the two are talented wordsmiths.
2 She Sings About Shenhe Before Knowing Her
From the many supernatural folklore in Liyue, Yun-Han Opera Troupe often performs “The Divine Damsel of Devastation.” Yun Jin enacts this title so often that she knows the script like the back of her hand. However, recently, she has come to know that the lass in the tale is a real person.
The play tells the story of a young girl who lost her parents at a young age, and soon was taken as a disciple by the Adepti. It recounts the tale of sorrow and grief, one that ends with loneliness. But as Yun Jin met Shenhe in person, the fable now closes with how the lass is surrounded by friends and a place she can call home.
1 Hates Shrimp And Loves Tasting Beverages
As a performer, Yun Jin lives with the expectation of having the perfect proportion. Because of this, she can’t eat too much meat, and would often be told to opt for shrimp as an alternative. Due to the excessive consumption, Yun Jin soon starts to despise Stir-Fried Shrimp.
This inability to indulge in delicacies also causes Yun Jin to enjoy tasting beverages instead. Whenever she runs out of inspiration, her favorite drinks would help moisten the dried well. Xingqiu even goes as far as keeping a jar of tea leaves under his bed to assist Yun Jin whenever she needs it.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
