Top Gun Movie 1986
In partnership with Paramount Pictures, Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer produced the 1986 American action drama film Top Gun, which was directed by Tony Scott. The essay “Top Guns” by Ehud Yonay, which appeared in California magazine three years previously, served as the basis for the screenplay, which was written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis play the lead parts in the movie. Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt play supporting roles. On board the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, Cruise portrays Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a young Navy aviator. He is offered the opportunity to train at the US Navy’s Fighter Weapons School at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California, along with his Radar Intercept Officer, LTJG Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (Edwards). On May 16, 1986, Top Gun was made public. Film critics gave the movie a variety of ratings after its debut. The number of theatres playing it climbed by 45 percent four weeks following its premiere. Despite the film’s initial poor reviews, it became a major economic success, earning $357 million against a $15 million production budget. Over time, the movie’s appeal persisted, and in 2013 it was given another IMAX 3D release.
