Environmental storytelling has consistently been a major strength for developer FromSoftware, and the latest release Elden Ring is no exception to this trend. Now, as players continue to dive into the more intricate details of the game, one player has discovered a secret in the boss room for the Red Wolf of Radagon in Raya Lucaria.

This detail comes specifically from the Debate Parlor in Raya Lucaria, a place that players will likely spend a lot of time in, considering it is both a boss room and the start of a major fork in the legacy dungeon. However, while most players only look at the Debate Parlor in Elden Ring for long enough to slay the Red Wolf and head out to explore the rest of the dungeon, one player discovered a nod to a fan-favorite set of helmets found throughout Raya Lucaria.

The piece of environmental storytelling that a player has called to attention in a recent Reddit post is that there are portraits of the conspectus founders hanging above the bleachers. What helps to make this notable, is that each of these founders matches up with the glintstone crowns that several of the sorcerers and some NPCs who are related to Raya Lucaria wear. This even includes the Twinsage helmet that has two heads plastered together, creating one of the stranger glintstone artifacts in Elden Ring.

Fans of the lore of Elden Ring might understand better who these conspectus founders are and what the glintstone crowns mean to the story of Raya Lucaria. Essentially, these founders are the heads of the five schools of sorcery from the academy, and the enemies that players run into are students that have proven themselves among their colleagues. So, while these portraits might seem like a minor detail to the average player passing through Raya Lucaria, getting a better view of each of these characters gives a much clearer picture of Elden Ring’s rich backstory.

The environmental storytelling of FromSoftware titles continues to be divisive among fans, with many enjoying the task of piecing together the story through enemy placements and item descriptions. On the other hand, some players would prefer to have the narrative more directly told to them, especially when understanding the multiple endings in Elden Ring and other titles becomes so heavily dependent on the background lore. Regardless of the rest of the narrative, however, finding these smaller details in boss arenas and notable sites of grace can make exploring more worthwhile.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
