Maya Lopez / Echo made her debut in the Hawkeye series in 2021 but is due to have a spin-off show completely about her releasing on Disney Plus in the near future. With ties to lots of characters both good and bad in the comics, Echo is a significant character and one that inspires people with her disability being used as an advantage instead of a crutch.
While Echo may not be as popular as other heroes, there are lots of fans interested in seeing her storylines brought to life in live-action. There are specific things fans are hoping to see in the show when it releases. Echo is one of the most sympathetic MCU villains, and fans are excited to see her transform into a hero.
6 Fallout Of Father’s Death
In the Hawkeye series, Echo was attempting to avenge her father’s death which she believed was at the hands of Ronin / Clint Barton. She later found out that it was actually at the hands of the Kingpin.
Fans will be hoping to see more of Maya’s grief over her father’s death explored in Echo, with her grief hopefully allowing her to be a force for good and take down criminals. This is one of the elements that Hawkeye set up for the future of the MCU, so it is expected to be covered in this Echo series.
5 Kate Bishop Return
The end of Hawkeye established Kate Bishop taking over the mantle as Clint Barton finally retires for good to be with his family. While the MCU version of Kate Bishop differs from the comics, one element that’s remained is the fighting between Bishop and Lopez. Both Barton and Bishop came into direct confrontation with Echo before she learned of the truth behind her father’s death.
Fans will be hoping to see a return of Bishop as Hawkeye in the series, this time on the same side as Echo as she takes down criminals in her quest for vengeance. It would make sense for Bishop to return, as she and Lopez are no longer enemies, but both have an interest in taking down Kingpin for his actions towards their families.
4 Daredevil And Kingpin Return
Echo has worked with Daredevil quite a number of times in the comics, even serving alongside him as part of the Defenders. These are Daredevil comic stories everyone should read, especially those who are also big fans of Echo. With Kingpin returning in Hawkeye and having known Maya Lopez since she was young, as well as being Daredevil’s biggest villain, it is possible both characters could return in Echo.
Both of these characters have returned to the MCU recently via Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home, so future appearances are definitely in the pipeline. Fans will be hoping to see them returning to Echo, with Daredevil and Lopez fighting alongside each other.
3 Hand-To-Hand Combat Scenes
Maya had a number of impressive fighting scenes in Hawkeye, shown to be a very capable hand-to-hand combatant and one of Hawkeye’s best villains. The bare-knuckle, up-close-and-personal fighting nature of Echo leads to intimacy in her fighting scenes that go a long way in connecting the audience to the conflict.
Fans will be hoping to see more of these hand-to-hand fighting scenes in the Echo series and with even better cinematography than the fights she had in the Hawkeye series.
2 Grayer Morality
Fans typically tend to enjoy anti-heroes in movies that have more complex, grayer morality than being out-and-out heroes or villains. With Maya first appearing as an antagonist but looking to be on a journey of redemption as she turns into a hero, she is a perfect character for Marvel to focus on.
Her characterization is less clear-cut than other featured heroes in the MCU, and this makes for better television. Fans will be hoping for her morality to be explored in the show, with her edge being that she doesn’t do things by the book, she isn’t always a force for good, but is simply a vengeful orphan trying to make her way independently and without manipulation from actual bad guys.
1 New Ground
While Echo has been a significant, well-connected character in the comics, she has sometimes taken on strange storylines and personas that fans haven’t been completely thrilled with. More recently she has become the Phoenix in the comics, a decision that has been decidedly unappreciated. These are things only comic readers would know about Echo.
There’s a chance for the Echo series to cover new ground with the character. She can’t simply be an add-on in her own series, and while characters such as Moon Knight, Daredevil, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), and Kingpin could and should show up in some capacity, Lopez needs to be the star of the show. When films introduce new elements or characters not featured in the comics, such as X-23 from the Logan film, fans tend to receive it well. Echo could take the route of introducing new storylines and plot elements that haven’t been featured in the comics, to keep fans guessing on what will happen.
