It’s been over seven years since the original Dying Light game released and developer Techland is still supporting it in some impressive ways. The latest bit of support for Dying Light came in the form of an update geared towards souping up the visuals on the Xbox consoles.
The update for the original game comes just a month after Techland released the sequel Dying Light 2. It should be noted that this patch is not an actual upgrade to an Xbox Series X/S game but is going to make the game look better on the Xbox One as well as the newer consoles. The patch is one that was announced a while ago and has seen a bit of a staggered release.
The Xbox Series X upgrade offers similar quality to other titles that have gotten from patches like this. The Performance Mode now allows for 60 FPS in Full HD and a Balanced Mode that is targeting 60 FPS in QHD. There is also a Quality Mode which offers 30 FPS in full 4K resolution. It should be noted that are other games that have managed to hit 60 FPS and 4K, and this particular patch will apparently fall just a bit short there.
For the Xbox Series S and Xbox One, the Performance Mode will offer 30 FPS in full HD. The Quality Mode is aiming for 30 FPS in QHD resolution. In addition to those mode upgrades, the patch is offering new networking utilizing the EOS solution.
Earlier this month, Techland released a similar patch for the PS5 and PS4 Pro. At the time, it had made it clear that Xbox users would be getting their own version of the upgrade and it’s now landed.
While some fans expressed their annoyance that Techland was using its time and resources to support a seven-year-old game, it’s not as though the company has ignored its newest title. In fact, the company has released several patches for Dying Light 2 that have been geared towards making that game better with tweaks here and there. The question now is whether or not the new patch that offers visual upgrades for Dying Light is one that will be the beginning of the company moving on, or whether it means that the game will continue getting supported well into the future.
Dying Light is now available on PC, PS4, Switch, and, Xbox One.
