Dreamscaper, released on August 13, 2021, for the PC and Switch, is a game for those that love randomness. In this game everything is random. The stages are randomly placed, the loot is randomly generated, and the abilities weapons receive at higher levels are random. In one playthrough Cassidy might have Kunai that shower the screen with piercing, fiery, projectiles. In the next playthrough, you might have Kunai with much fewer projectiles, inflicting Poison damage and ricocheting with every shot.
This makes selecting a ranged weapon a little tricky. Does a player keep their Finger Gun that does 45 damage per shot, or a new weapon that does a little less but is being augmented by a Keepsake? This list will help players decide by ranking the best ranged weapons in Dreamscaper as they are in their base state.
10 Telekinesis
- DPS:
- 39
- Special:
- None
- Mastery Modifier:
- +5% Attack Speed
Telekinesis just made the last spot on this list due to its high damages output. This ranged weapon lifts a chunk of earth from the ground to use as the projectile. This not only does a lot of damage, but it also staggers the enemy and knocks them back a little. The Mastery Modifier is nice but is likewise barely noticeable.
The biggest problem with this weapon is that everything about Telekinesis is slow. It has about a second of start-up as the rock is lifted from the ground. The projectile itself isn’t that fast either; the enemy probably won’t dodge it, but it could allow the enemy to fire projectiles at Cassidy.
9 Firecracker
- DPS:
- 21
- Special:
- Area of effect
- when it strikes…and very festive.
- Mastery Modifier:
- +15% Fire Damage
Cassidy throws powerful fireworks at the enemy when she has the Firecracker equipped. These are bright and colorful - more importantly, they do a decent amount of damage. After striking the target these firecrackers explode, causing additional damage to any nearby enemy. This effect makes the Firecracker excellent for crowd control purposes.
The projectile and explosion both inflict Fire damage on the target. This makes Firecracker’s Mastery Modifier one of the best on this list. Players shouldn’t be fooled by the DPS; with the explosion added the total damage per projectile, for a single target, is 43.
8 Decent Drencher 1000
- DPS:
- 30
- Special:
- Continuous. Inflicts the
- Wet
- status ailment on target for
- 2 seconds
- .
- Mastery Modifier:
- +20% Wet duration.
The Super Soaker-inspired Decent Drencher 1000 is the first of the continuous-fire weapons on this list. This means the weapon doesn’t shoot a single projectile, but rather a solid stream of something harmful. The continuous rate of fire allows enemies to be drained of their health in seconds. It also makes aiming a lot easier.
The Wet status ailment is a useful exploit for the player. Against a single opponent, this allows the player to slow a charging enemy while doing continuous damage. Against a group this weapon can be sprayed-out in an area to give a group of enemies the Wet Status ailment; thereby giving the player time to get away.
7 Boostie Fuego
- DPS:
- 26
- Special:
- Continuous. Deals 9 extra
- Burn
- Damage over
- 4 seconds
- .
- Mastery Modifier:
- +20% Burn duration.
Boostie Fuego is a flamethrower. That sentence alone should be enough for this weapon to make this list, but here are some details. This sprays fire in a shorter stream than the Decent Drencher 1000. The fire-stream covers a wider area than the Drencher though. This does a little less damage per second in exchange for more total damage (overall) with the Burn damage.
The flame also staggers enemies to the point they can’t move - this takes a few seconds. As with the Drencher, Boostie Fuego is great against a single opponent or against groups. Burn damage is also incredibly helpful during some boss fights.
6 Kunai
- DPS:
- 12 X 3
- Special:
- Fires t
- hree projectiles
- at the cost of one
- Mastery Modifier:
- +2 Projectiles per shot
The Kunai throws out three knife-like projectiles in a widening fan pattern. This makes Kunai perfect for crowd control. If a player can get really close to an enemy and hit it with all three projectiles the damage is quite good. The problem is that players have to get really close; necessitating the need for a powerful melee weapon.
The Kunai is ranked where it is based on its starting (level 1) state. Getting a high-level Kunai with projectiles that ricochet, and pierce the enemy is as overpowered as a weapon can get in Dreamscaper. That version of Kunai would be in the top three.
5 Optic Sear
- DPS:
- 48
- Special:
- Continuous
- Mastery Modifier:
- -10% Lucid for Ranged Attack
This ranged weapon is for players that want to turn Cassidy into a superhero. The Optic Orb allows her to fire continuous (laser-like) beams from her eyes. This beam is one of the highest DPS ranged weapons in Dreamscaper, and is arguably the best weapon for the boss fights that take place in a staged arena.
The drawback to the Optic Sear is that it drains Cassidy’s Lucid meter in seemingly no time at all. As with other continuous-fire weapons, the Optic Sear is easy to aim - so at least a player doesn’t waste too much of their Lucid meter with misses. Try to get the ricochet ability for the Optic Sear.
4 Voltaic Ray
- DPS:
- 45
- Special:
- Continuous, Extra
- Lightning
- Damage
- Mastery Modifier:
- +1 chain added (it hits an extra enemy)
Whereas the Optic Sear was a laser beam from the eyes, the Voltaic Ray lets Cassidy shoot lightning bolts from her fingertips. This provides continuous Lightning damage. The lightning bolt projected by this weapon can chain to a second enemy - dealing 100% of the damage to each.
Like all the ranged weapons capable of constant fire, the Voltaic Ray empties the Lucid meter quickly. This can be mitigated by getting Keepsakes that increase Influence. At higher levels, the Voltaic Ray can clear an entire area long before Cassidy runs out of the Lucid resource. Many Lucid Attacks seem to pair well with the Voltaic Ray.
3 Frisbee
- DPS:
- 30 (X 2)
- Special:
- Projectiles
- ricochet
- at least once
- Mastery Modifier:
- +10% Ranged Damage
There will be some players that read this list and can’t believe the Frisbee wasn’t ranked #1. It’s a high-damage weapon with a high rate of fire, but its usefulness is ultimately dictated by what the terrain looks like. The Frisbee is guaranteed to ricochet at least once; this translates into more enemies being hit per projectile than most weapons.
In confined areas, the Frisbee can decimate a group of enemies with only a couple of shots. In open areas, this weapon has less to ricochet from if the player misses their target. This is also not a very good long-range weapon - it’s not bad, but not great either.
2 Snowball
- DPS:
- 26
- Special:
- Each Snowball has a
- 25%
- chance to
- Freeze
- the enemy for 4 seconds
- Mastery Modifier:
- -20% chance to Freeze.
The Snowball is just a phenomenal, all-around, weapon that’s worth investing a few Keepsake slots to improve. This is a weapon that players will consider keeping when they find a new, higher-level, ranged weapon. During some boss battles, the Snowball can seem a bit worthless; in every other scenario, this weapon gets the job done.
The Freeze status ailment is one of the best. This stops enemies in their tracks and allows for easier follow-up shots. The only thing to keep in mind about the Snowball is that the projectiles don’t move very fast and have an arc to their trajectory.
1 Finger Gun
- DPS:
- 33
- Special:
- None
- Mastery Modifier:
- -10% Lucid used for Ranged Attacks.
With this weapon, Cassidy makes a gun shape with her fingers and fires a powerful blast at the target. The firing action has about a two-second charge time, but the player can move Cassidy while the Finger Gun charges. As long as the player isn’t using a low-level Finger Gun during the mid-to-late levels, it should be able to kill many enemies with one shot.
This weapon uses a fair amount of Lucid per shot; however, due to its high damage, a player can usually clear an area before their Lucid is depleted. Try to get ricochet or piercing abilities for the Finger Gun to make it even more overpowered. This is the best ranged weapon in Dreamscaper.
Dreamscaper is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
