Minnie Mouse’s ‘woke’ new appearance, which sees the iconic figure ditch her signature red polka-dot frock in favour of a ‘progressive’ blue pantsuit designed by Stella McCartney, has sparked outrage inside Disney.

Elon Musk tweeted Disney in the streets, Euphoria in the sheets.

Minnie has had a high-fashion makeover in honour of Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary, according to a tweet from the park on Tuesday. However, within minutes of the tweet’s publication, dozens of individuals expressed their displeasure with the new layout.

Minnie, who was born over a century ago, in 1928, has long been known for wearing a red and white polka-dot outfit around the park. Until now, that is. Her new style not only gets rid of the dress, but it also gets rid of her red outfit in favour of a blue one.

Stella designed Minnie’s new’sustainable’ costume in honour of Women’s History Month in March and the 50th anniversary of the French park, stating that the ensemble is supposed to transform the cartoon into ‘a symbol of development for a new generation.’

However, the move has sparked outrage online, with many people questioning why Minnie has been given a ‘woke’ new makeover. This comes just a week after Disney was embroiled in yet another controversy over its upcoming live-action remake of Snow White, and amid growing outrage over the studio’s haphazard attempts to present a more politically correct image.

Disney has made a number of progressive adjustments in the last two years, including adding racism warnings to several of its famous films, such as Peter Pan and The Jungle Book, and urging white employees to ‘decolonize their bookshelves’ as part of anti-racist training.

Following criticism from Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, Disney stated earlier this week that their planned live-action remake of Snow White will take a “different approach” to the seven dwarves who appeared in the original storey, leaving many fans perplexed.

Minnie Mouse, probably one of the company’s most well-known characters, has been transformed by McCartney, who has dressed her in a blue polka-dot jacket with matching slacks instead of the white-and-red polka-dot outfit she is most known for.

Minnie’s crimson bow was replaced with a blue one, and her favourite yellow pumps were replaced with a pair of black shoes.

Minnie’s trademark red dress has become a fixture for the character’s image in theme parks, despite having a few changes ensembles over her years as a cartoon.

She’s also always worn a skirt or dress, and has never worn pants before, so her new look is sure to go down in history.

‘I wanted Minnie to wear her very first pantsuit at Disneyland Paris, so I fashioned one of my signature costumes — a blue tuxedo – using responsibly sourced fabrics,’ Stella said in a statement.
