Discord is well appreciated by its users, but it also disappoints them with occasional bugs and issues here and there. For example, we recently highlighted how some were not able to send or download videos.
And now, it appears that some Android users are experiencing issues when downloading videos due to a format-related glitch.
Discord unsupported format bug
According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7), when a video is downloaded from Discord, it appears grayed out and without a preview, both in the gallery and in the Android file picker.
The videos appear as if they were in an Unsupported format, but they are actually downloaded as .MP4, which should be supported but is reportedly not working for a couple of them. Source
This issue has been reported by multiple users on Reddit and other forums, and it affects v159.10 of the app. The cause of the bug is currently unknown, but it seems a wide range of users are affected.
Potential workaround
One workaround that has been suggested by users is to import the downloaded videos into a video editing app, then export or download them from there to the gallery.
The process seems to fix the issue and allows the videos to be viewed and shared through other apps.
However, this is not a permanent solution, and it is unclear when the issue will be fixed by the Discord team as they haven’t acknowledged the matter.
But we hope the team considers the reports and shares a solution to this problem as soon as possible. Until then, stay tuned as we will update the story if we come across any developments.
