The latest season of Destiny 2—Season of the Splicer—released back in May and will run until about mid-August. The story pits players against a familiar foe in the Vex as they battle for the fate of The Last City. In a tribute to Season 14, Bungie has begun sending out kits to a total of 45 select Destiny 2 content creators.

With Destiny 2’s week 6 of a total of 13 weeks in the season just wrapping up, fans are about halfway through the Season of the Splicer content. As the story to this point has been defined by corruption and intrigue, the kit sent out to content creators is fittingly mysterious.

As Twitter user RickKackis shows fans, the gift comes in the form of a heavy-duty crate. Inside the kit is a pair of Koss Porta Pro headphones, a cassette player with an accompanying cassette tape, a light-up display in the form of the Destiny logo, and an ultraviolet flashlight. There’s also a mysterious card included with the kit that, when illuminated by the UV flashlight, reveals a cryptic message inspired by the Season of the Splicer storyline.

When illuminated, the message reads:

Of course, Season of the Splicer is centered around the Vex’s plan to plunge The Last City into eternal darkness, so a letter that is only revealed under a certain type of light is the perfect way to deliver a message to fans. Unfortunately, the message appears to just be a celebration of the new season rather than a way to reveal any new information regarding the mysterious Splicers. It’s hard to ignore the cryptic nature of the package and it could very well be the case that there are more secrets to unveil within the kit, but for now, it simply seems like a way for Bungie to thank some of its most loyal players.

At a time when Destiny 2 is being plagued by datamining and spoilers, the wave of excitement caused by this secretive kit should be a welcome change to most fans. For now, tomorrow’s release of Week 7 will push players past the halfway mark of the Season of the Splicer content, and the bigger picture is slowly starting to come together. At the very least, the kit sent out by Bungie acts as a reminder of the effort that was put into the creation of this latest season, and players can likely expect interesting plot twists ahead and possibly exciting new exotic weapons.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
